Blessed with Friends

This weekend I have been reminded of the many friends God has given me here in Thailand. Yesterday I taught English to a group of 6 people at the church in Pak Nam. They are such a fun group; the next 5 weeks will go by quickly. I forgot to get a picture of the class--maybe next Saturday.

Saturday evening, I was invited down to floor 4 of my apartment building, where 2 prospective students stay. I enjoyed a nice meal with them and had fun chatting and looking at some of their photo albums. They will probably study English at my apartment on Monday evenings.

Here they are, Pop (Bob) and Kun (Goon)

And here are Kun and me:)

Today I had coffee with Anita, also a very nice time. Sorry, no pics of us.:) And when I returned home, I talked with a few of my street vendor friends while I ate supper.

I was hardly in my room when Nui, who lives on 2nd floor and practices her English with me every week, brought me some soup her mom had made this weekend. Then we sat and chatted a while.

Next was Gop and his mother, Ruung, part of the manager's family. Gop is 12 years old, and he has been learning some English as well. Gop came running into my room and asked to play "that English word game" on my computer. I almost forgot that a few months ago, he had come in one time when I was playing Scramble on Facebook, and he wanted his turn at trying.

So tonight, I introduced him to another Facebook game, Pathwords. He liked that one even better than scramble. No matter that he knows very few actual words; he kept trying till he hit a correct spelling. His mom finally got tired of waiting for him to get done, so she went back downstairs, and Gop stayed another hour till his mom called up for him about 10 pm.:) I had just told him I needed to get ready for bed soon.

I am amazed by the way he just loves to hang out in my room when he has the occasion. In between working on the computer, he would run around the room exploring. Then he discovered my little flashlight, so he started shining it on people outside on the street below. Fortunately, the beam was not very powerful, so they never noticed, but Gop had a great time. Again, no pictures, but I find myself enjoying days like this where I am home for people to just drop in. It doesn't happen often enough.
